Our fiberglass masks were born in 2000 when a Taiwanese buyer wanted a lightweight mask that's durable and waterproof. Before, our masks were Terra Cotta and made as one-off collectibles, and the masks that were sold for souvenirs in Bacolod were crude paper mache. Arlene designed the whole collection of 6 masks with corresponding costumes and these were shipped to Taiwan. Although Azatri does not focus on masks, the design and manufacturing challenge was too "challenging" to pass up. Arlene and Ricky packed these themselves, never mind that Ricky hammered his fingers into a pulp, making 6 crates because the buyer specified it. He was able to use his architecture degree after all.

Our next generation of masks featured the embossed design we used on our Terra Cotta masks. We put less emphasis on the headdress and instead focused on the mask itself. These are wall decors but if you want to wear it for the Masskara Festival street dancing, go ahead!
